On his coming to the crown he published an ordinance, which made it present death to any person whomsoever, who should attempt to corrupt any man’s wife, or forcibly take a married woman from her husband; for which reason those who have beautiful daughters give them in marriage very young, that they not to be exposed to any violence. In the reign of Hussein, men of great distinction were wont to seize upon what women they pleased, whether married or single; but as Nadir himself was a strict observer of the law just mentioned, very few persons had the boldness to violate it in his time.
