A tourist visa is often necessary to visit many countries these days. Iran is no different. To facilitate tourists’ entry to Iran, the elected government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in June 2013 began trying to make the visa process as easy as possible. The first step was eliminating the visa requirements between Iran and some other countries like Russia; it was a trend that Iran had already implemented earlier with Turkey. Following this decision, electronic visas were then introduced to further streamline the system and thereby allow more tourists to visit Iran. Many visitors now obtain their visas on arrival at the airport in Tehran as well as at many borders. Certain nationalities (US/UK and Canada) lacking embassies in Tehran, still require obtaining visas the more traditional way via a pre-arranged authorization number issued from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
