Kashan

The sister of Umea of Sweden, Kazanlak of Bulgaria and Sabzevar of Iran is located in Isfahan province. Kashan is located 220 kilometers far from the south of Tehran, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran. There are many theories for the term “Kashan”. One of them says the term means Summer Houses that were built with wood and straw. Another says the term derivate from the word “Kassie = Scythian” which the pronunciation has been changed in Modern Persian and is presented “Kashan” now. Kashan which is located between Karkas (Vulture) mountains and Iran central desert has two UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These are Sialk hills and Fin garden. Kashan is also the city in where some famous Iranians were grown; people like poet Sohrab Sepehri, Persian Muslim scholar, astronomer, and mathematician Ghyath ad-Din Jamshid Kashani, and the great painter Kamal-ol-Molk. The poet books have been translated to English, French and other languages. Kashan, similar to many Old Persian cities, used to keep its especial architecture style. The architecture styles here were from the Ghaznavid and Safavid dynasties but by the time of Pahlavi, 20th century, they were completely changed to western style. Nowadays, those Old Persian styles are retaken. The city used to be fenced with the high adobe walls and people commutes were controlled through the gates that were placed between the curtains. It should be mentioned that resulting of some drastic earthquakes in 18 and 19th centuries, many houses and edifices were ruined while walls, curtains and gates were standing. People of Kashan speak Farsi or Persian with the accent which is called Tati. Continued…
